Two references in Wire's Diary.

Wire recorded the discovery of a pavement in the garden of house 3 doors N of the Independent Chapel some time before 1846.

OS 1:500 map marks `Roman pavement and coins found, 1852 and 1853' under the site of the former shed where the Park Cafe now stands.

In Dec 1849 a tessellated pavement was found during the rebuilding of the `Peoples' Hall (the site now of St George's Hall) adjoining the Corn Exchange.

In 1748 and subsequently a tessellated pavement has been uncovered in the garden of Trinity House, nearly 3ft below the surface.

In 1933 Messrs Sainsbury made alterations in the garden second west from the Red Lion.
