Suspected Roman road or courtyard or part of the foundation of the old Peldon Hall sacked in 1381.

A possible ring ditch, c.24m in diameter (centred on TL 95627 25589), and other possible linear cropmarks have been recorded by aerial photography ot the east of Iron Latch Lane (and west of Chitts Hill), across an area c.9.5ha. in size.

Walls are of flint and septaria rubble, partly faced with knapped flints, tower has a large admixture of Roman brick.

the church was restored in the middle of the C19 when the existing N arcade of the nave replaced a previous, worn one.

Rodwell suggests this is an Anglo-Saxon church on the grounds of its dedication, situation, orientation and plan, and possibly quite a substantial one.

Possibly Anglo-Saxon burials have been recovered.
